Pathfinder RPG Changes

I am in the process of updating characters for changes. They are many, it seems! I will post the exhaustive list of changes to each character here as they are changed, and also post updated character sheets.

Expected order of changes:
  • Asëa (done)
  • Eruanna (done)
  • Flinn (done-ish: 4 skill points left, presumably Diplo, Handle, Intim, and Local?)
  • Aether (done pending new Bestiary rules)
  • Boots (as far as I can go for now, awaiting Will’s input)
  • Miithi (as far as I can go for now, awaiting custom Bloodline)
  • Swii (hopefully simple conversion, but pending rules review and new bestiary to check Air Elementals)

Comments

As far as I can tell, here are Asëa’s changes (between her current level 4 sheet and her new level 4 sheet which will be posted any second)

Changes from 3.5

  • Elf (changes due to being an elf)
    • +2 Int, which Ethan is tentatively ruling cancels the 3.5 Wood Elf Int penalty.
    • Elven Magic: Now gain a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks to overcome SR
    • Elven Magic: Now gain a +2 bonus on appraise checks to determine properties of magic items
    • Keen Senses: Now gain a +2 on all Perception based tests (compared to only Spot and Listen and search before, they now get this bonus in smell, taste, touch)
    • Favored Class: Wiz or Ranger. She picks Ranger, unless Wood Elf has other favored class options.
    • Weapon Familiarity: Any weapon with “elven” (and one assumes “elf”) in it is now considered martial for elves.
    • Weapon Familiarity: No longer gain Martial Weapon Proficiency feats with the special weapons (bows, rapiers, etc). Instead, they are merely treated as proficient with them (this probably has some connotations somewhere since it is now racial and not a feat. Any thoughts, Ethan?)
  • Druid (changes to the druid class)
    • Lose Diplomacy as a class skill (that one never made sense anyway)
    • Gain Climb, Knowledge (Geography) as class skills.
    • Animal Companion now an optional. She takes it!
    • Gain proficiency with Scythes.
    • Orisons at will :)
    • More wild shape with utterly different rules. Get elemental, plant shapes earlier. Loses Elder Elemental shape.
    • Loses some spells-per-day at high level (one each in 1st through 5th by level 20)
    • Resist Nature’s Lure now includes bonuses to saves on spells that affect plants like Entangle.
    • ATF uses Alter Self.
    • Animal Companion: Totally different. Changes will be posted when I convert Eruanna.
    • Some spells change later. For now, loses CMW for Stabilize.
  • Asëa (changes that the above have on Asëa)
    • More int! Aside from extra skill points, she also gains a free new language! Celestial.
    • Skills
      • Alter Belief – No change.
      • Acrobatics: One unified skill now. Her modifier is +6 (see struck out skills for what they used to be)
        • She has 3 ranks. Having 3 or more ranks in it means she gets a +3 dodge bonus to AC from fighting defensively (instead of +2) and +6 (instead of +4) when total defense-ing.
      • Appraise: +2 from more int, and gets the elven bonus to iding properties.
      • Balance: Now part of Acrobatics. Went from +3 to +6.
      • Bluff: No change.
      • Climb: No change. If she wild-shapes to a form with a climb speed, she gets a +8, and can always take 10, and can move double-speed when accelerated, or its full land speed, whichever is lower, for a single climb heck at -5. Retains dex bonus to AC, opponents get no bonus against it, but cannot run while climbing.
      • Concentration: Not a skill anymore. Instead, add caster level and spellcasting ability bonus to D20. This means she has a net +7 now, compared to +6 before (I will add place for this, and save DC modifiers to all our spellcasters)
      • Craft: Bowmaking mod goes from +0 to +4 (+3 class skill with ranks bonus, +1 int). Other crat not marked trained only (I was in error and no one caught it!)
      • Decipher Script: Now part of Linguistics. Still trained only, except you can decipher your own racial language untrained (so elven), and Ethan has added Druidic to the list that she can decipher untraind.
      • Diplomacy: No change, but now has gather info in it as well.
      • Disable Device: No change
      • Disguise: No change, but +10 under Wild Shape.
      • Escape Artist: No change
      • Forgery: Now part of Linguistics, and may not be tried untrained.
      • Fly: +7 mod in it
      • Gather Information: Now part of Diplo
      • Handle Animal: No change
      • Heal: Mod goes from +5 to +8 (class skill with ranks bonus)
      • Hide: Part of Stealth. No change
      • Intimidate: No change *Jump Part of acrobatics. Mod goes from +1 to +6 (+3 rank, +2 uses dex now not str!)
      • Knowledge
        • Geo now class. No ranks yet. +2 instad of +1 on untrained, from more int.
        • Nature: +10 becomes +11 due to more int.
        • Other: +2 instad of +1 on untrained, from more int.
      • Linguistics: Trained only, but +2 int on untrained usage instead of +1
      • Listen: Now part of perception. Bonus goes from +7 to +9 (-1 rank, +3 class skill with rank)
      • Move Silently: Now part of stealth. Mod unchanged
      • Open Lock: Gone, i forget where too!
      • Perception: Amalgam form of all senses. Elves now get a bonus in all aspects, her net mod is +9, and +17 in scent if wild shaping to a east with scent.
      • Perform: unchanged
      • Profession: Unchanged.
      • Ride: +5 becomes +3, loses Handle Animal synergy. Also, always has ACP now.
      • Search: Now part of perception and appraise, depending. Mods vary due to that.
      • Sense Motive: Unchanged.
      • Sleight of Hand: Unchanged.
      • Speak Language: Part of Linguistics.
      • Spellcraft: +6 becomes +9. -1 rank, +3 class skill, +1 more Int
      • Spot: Part of Perception. Mod goes from +6 to +9.
      • Stealth: Mod is +3
      • Survival: Mod goes from +7 to +11 (+1 rank, +3 class skill with rank). Note: Loses her above ground synergy from K(N)
      • Swim: No change. No longer double ACP. Gets a slew of bonuses when wild shaping to a creature with swim speed.
      • Tumble: Part of acrobatics. Goes from +4 to +6.
      • Use Magic Device: No change.
      • Use Rope: Gone! Part of climb and such now.
      • Wild Empathy: +7 becomes +5. Loses synergy. Sadface.
    • Tiny Elemental Wild Shape Houserule: removed for now, pending re-integration

I think I am doing something wrong. The way I am reading the rules, with a little magical help, Eruanna will be able to drag a cart with 28 TONS (56,000 pounds) on it by level 20 (for 20 minutes minus 6 seconds per pair of spells cast). You’d think I’d stop questioning things like this by now, but, to misquote monty python, “a ninety-six pound bird cannot drag a 28 ton cart!” (the magic involved multiplies her weight by 8 so yeah).

TENTATIVE look at Flinn’s skills:

currently has (level 4):

Diplomacy (7 points, 3 cross class ranks) Handle Animal (6 ranks) Intimidate (6 ranks) Knowledge Local (2 points, 1 cross class rank) Ride (7 ranks)

To keep the same modifiers in the new system, you would take Diplomacy 3 ranks (3 points) Handle Animal 3 ranks Intimidate 3 ranks Knowledge (Local) 1 rank (1 point) Ride 4 ranks

at level 4, you get 2 fighter + 1 int + 1 human rank at each level, for a total of 16 ranks. You spent 14, which means you have 2 skill points to re-assign.

Also, at level 1, you get to choose a favored class (which may not be a prestige class). Assuming this means you’d choose fighter, then for every fighter level you gain, you may gain EITHER one skill point OR one extra HP (chosen each level).

Also, not quite sure, but I think Miithi, and Asëa will get to make Sorc and Druid their favored classes (waiting for Ethan), and of course Boots can make Favored Soul his, which means that we will ALL get up to 4 extra HP or skill points (or some combination)

currently has (level 4):

  • Diplomacy (7 points, 3 cross class ranks)

TENTATIVE changes to Boot’s skills:

Currently (level 3) has
  • 5 ranks concentration
  • 4 ranks diplomacy
  • 1 cross-class rank ride (2 points)
  • 1 rank spellcraft
To keep that, he would spend:
  • 1 rank Diplomacy
  • 1 rank Ride
  • 1 rank Spellcraft.

As a level 3 human with an int penalty, he is open for 6 skill points (3 human, 3 from class), so has 3 skills left to pick for level 3, plus 2 for level 4

In addition, he may pick a favored class (probably favored soul?), per flinn, for either +1 HP or +1 skill point per level (note that toughness now gives +3 HP and +1 HP per HD over 3)

Ok, I think Asëa is finally done now, barring some small details. Took a while to add new links and fix skills (had to make sure that each level didn’t go too many skills at any level, i had a few errors).

Interesting changes to Eruanna:

  • +1 HD (roll 6) (+1 BAB, +1 skill, saves, ability score increase: Dex)
  • +11 HP overall
  • +2 CON (increases modifier), and +2 DEX (tentative, increases modifier)
  • +2 Fort save overall (extra con and HD)
  • +2 Ref Save overall (extra dex and HD)
  • Talon Attack: +2 to hit overall (+1 BAB, +1 DEX)
  • Bite Attack: +7 to hit overall (+1 BAB, +1 DEX, +5 not secondary anymore)
  • Fly: Taking one rank to get the nice +4 total that gives (eagles get more HD now anyway, so even after losing alertness, I can pull to the same spot mod as before at high level)
  • “Spot” has a net -2 (loss of alertness)
  • “Listen” gains +4 thanks to unified ranks :)
  • FInesse no longer has prereqs, so it is her level 1 feat, and lose Alertness :(

The +8 racial bonus to “Spot” (ie. perception(vision)) eagles have has TENTATIVELY been promoted to a +8 racial bonus in the entire perception skill (matches the rules for Hawk in the new sample bestiary, which is the best we currently have available). This means that Eruanna not only has eagle-eyes, but also eagle-ears, an eagle-tongue, eagle-....uh….touch….things…., and an eagle-nose (but Ethan and I agree that birds really shouldn’t use their sense of smell all that often, at least not as presented in the game).

Converted Aether. Many changes, she is substantially weaker.

  • Horses seem to have gained 100 lbs? We are not obeying the elf and human heights any more since they changed, so I guess not changing this one?
  • +1 DEX (increases modifier)
  • +1 CHA (no change)
  • Lost an HD, and 7HP (and one feat converted to bonus)
  • AC: -3 (lose 4 natural, gain 1 dex), +1 touch, -4 flat footed
  • -1 BAB from lack of HD
  • +1 REF (dex), -1 Will (loss of HD)
  • Attacks: Lost bite all together. lost the BAB.

I am assuming same class skills as animal companions (and breaking those rules to make Fly NOT a class skill!!!!)

Note: this was made using the sample bestiary rules. The official Pathfinder Bestiary is not released yet, so it is possible that it will be changed (given that the sample bestiary says that Heavy Horses have int 6, which is human-like sentience!). I hope she gets better. With like every enemy likely getting better, she is going to be dangerously weak. Eruanna already has almost double her new HP!

Boots is done-ish. Need many choices from will as follows:

  • Favored class (i know it, but I want to make sure!)
  • Favored class bonuses
  • Human +2 skill
  • Level 4 +1 skill
  • Level 0 Spell
  • 3x Level 2 Spells
  • Total of 5 skill points to assign
Changes:
  • Scale mail is +1 AC now.
  • Warhammer crit is x3. It always WAS, i just had it wrong.
  • Skills juggled.

AAAAND Miithi is done, at least as far as I can go without the rest of the rules from Ethan.

I just converted his HP by multiplying by 6/4 and rounding down.

Anyway, that is as far as I can convert people for now. Ethan needs to look at the new Air Elementals in the new Bestiary which isn’t out yet before I can do Swii, and we need to know what precisely he is now (still familiar?). So, I might start converting some mechanics pages to Pathfinder later, we’ll see.

Oh, and I bet people are wondering about the skill color-code. Here is the scoop:

  • This skill is either Trained Only or else deemed unusable (like for animals)
  • This skill is either Trained Only but allows restricted Untrained checks, or else is deemed restricted usage (like for animals)
  • This skill is neither of those, but has no ranks invested in it
  • This skill has ranks in it (or is based on level somehow)

In addition, a skill whose text is this color is NOT a class skill for the character. It is a class skill if the text is this color.

I’m done essentially everyday but friday by 6:30~7 or earlier if i know in advance and can eat dinner @ comp. Fridays I’m not sure what times ill be getting home yet.
